Men’s faces, women’s bodies

An observation courtesy of songwriter Bruce Cockburn:

Men’s faces / women’s bodies
On the magazine stand

I suppose we won’t have true equality of the sexes until men’s faces and women’s faces are represented in equal numbers on magazine covers. Also, men’s bodies and women’s bodies.

But women’s bodies are a lot more interesting to look at, aren’t they? I think it’s simply a matter of aesthetics — like the difference between the Nissan Cube and a Porsche.

Or maybe I’m just a biased, heterosexual male.

Porsches are women’s cars. No man could be persuaded to pose in front of this one. It’s a simple answer to a usually complex question.

That is because men look at women’s bodies and women look at men’s faces when judging attractiveness. Men find MOST women attractive simply because the female form is what they are attracted to. Unless the woman is morbidly obese, even a woman with an average face can be considered “hot” to men. Point is, women don’t really have to try to hard. Men have it tougher. In order to be considered “Hot” by women, they better have an attractive face…otherwise all the working out in the gym won’t change a thing.

Women look at men’s faces when judging attractiveness. Well, yes, but not in the (male) way you’re describing, at least, not after the woman in question has passed the age of 24 or so…

Women look at men’s faces for signs of kindness, intelligence, humour, sensitivity. You can be an average-looking guy, but if you have those things, you’ll attract women.

Of course, if you’re an average guy who’s only interested in the 22-year-old hottie, you’re probably out of luck, for two reasons: 1. Those girls likely haven’t yet matured into the broader definition of the term “attractive”, and 2. If they have matured that far, they probably aren’t going to find kindness, intelligence, etc., on the face of a hottie-hunting guy.
